I wrote this song over 10 years ago. I was in a season of life where I felt very close to God and yet I was dealing with some personal fears. I was up late one night working on this song when I decided to turn in for the evening. I walked into my bedroom getting ready to go to sleep when I heard my wife Beth say in a loud voice “Oh Aaron, just fix your eyes on Jesus!” As I looked over at my wife I realized she was still asleep! I believe, in that moment, God was speaking through my wife. She had no idea what I was personally dealing with and she was asleep! The very thing she was encouraging me to do was the very theme of the song I was writing. There are times in our lives where no matter what is going on around us, we have to keep our focus and attention on the character and nature of God! We have to keep our eyes steady on the prize…our prize is Jesus.
